About Celsius Performance Glass

More consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the benefits of glass roofing compared with polycarbonate. Aside from aesthetics, glass tends to have a much longer life span compared to other roofing products and coupled with the ease of maintenance, it is now a preferred option by many discerning consumers.

The Celsius range was one of the first glazing options on the market to offer the unique combination of heat reflection AND thermal insulation, but Celsius has even more benefits.

Rainfall and traffic noise are dramatically reduced when compared to 25mm polycarbonate. The argon gas filled units reduce the noise even further as well as offering greater insulation properties.

With our Celsius One and Celsius Elite products, destructive UV rays are reduced by up to 88%, thus offering protection for furniture and fabrics from sun damage. Additionally Celsius Clear, with its neutral tinted appearance for side frames and certain roof installations, makes the Celsius range the complete performance glazing solution.

Easy Clean System

What is the Easy Clean System ?

A system for converting ordinary glass into ‘Non-Stick’, Easy to Clean Glass.

What does it mean for my conservatory?

  • Stays cleaner longer because it keeps dirt and other contaminates from bonding to it.
  • Is easier to maintain because it requires less cleaning. It will reduce cleaning by as much as 70% over standard glass.*
  • Does not support adhesion or growth of bacteria, for a more hygienic environment.
  • Protects the surface from organic and inorganic contamination.
  • Resists staining from hard water deposits whilst maintaining a pristine appearance.
  • Eliminates the need for harsh or abrasive cleaning products.
Easy Clean Coating The to the left shows a single pane of glass, which has been treated on the left hand side only with our Easy Clean coating.

Easy Clean beads water droplets for the first few weeks following installation, proof of the product having been applied.

The blue tint of Celsius One and Celsius Elite glass also emphasises the natural colours of the sky.
*For units installed prior to April 2012, the reduction is as much as 50% over standard glass.

Warranty

Below is the warranty currently issued with Celsius Glass, including details of the product guarantee.

All units in the Celsius Performance Glass range carry a 10 year guarantee against seal failure, providing that correct glazing methods are used.
All other sealed units that are manufactured by us are guaranteed for 10 years against seal failure.
We also give a 10 year guarantee on our Easy Clean coating.
This guarantee is provided on the basis that the goods have been correctly installed and maintained in accordance with our instructions.
Our units are manufactured and kite-marked to BS EN 1279-2, toughened to BS EN 12150-1, and within the visual guidelines as set by the Glass and Glazing federation. Minor flaws such as bubbles, blisters, hairlines or blobs, fine scratches less than 25mm long or very small particles which are not obvious when viewed at 90 degrees in normal daylight and from 2 meters away are not covered.
i) Excluded from this guarantee is any defect in the goods arising from willful damage, accident, negligence, faulty installation by you or any third party, or any alteration or repair carried out without our approval.
ii) Should any goods supplied by us to you develop a defect under guarantee you should notify us in writing as soon as possible.
iii) Where we replace any item under guarantee we reserve the right to arrange for the return of the original item.
iv) Where possible we should be afforded the opportunity for one of our representatives to attend the de-glazing.
The above warranty is a statement of assurance of facts governing the Celsius Guarantee, and is issued only to the initial purchaser and is not transferable. The product guarantee however remains valid for the full period throughout transfers as stated above. This warranty does not affect any statutory rights you have as a consumer.
Please note: Details above are subject to change without notice.
NB: Some Celsius Certificates of Authenticity were issued with the incorrect wording 'Warranty excludes...', this should have read 'Guarantee excludes...'. The statements above supersede those of the printed certificates.

Installation Guidelines

The glazing of units should be in strict accordance with the GGF Glazing Manual. Never use incompatible glazing compounds (e.g. containing solvent) for the solid bedding of insulating glass. The sealant/glass interface should always be adequately protected against exposure to UV radiation. Rebate height must be sufficient to accommodate adequate depth of seal, edge cover, perimeter clearance and manufacturing variations.
Before glazing, frames should be allowed to dry completely after staining, preservative treatment or painting. Solvent should not be used either to soften the glazing compound or to clean the unit.
Some types of silicone sealant when in contact with the edge seal can cause an adverse reaction in the sealant, leading to premature failure.
If it is necessary to use a silicone when glazing then we recommend the use of ‘Low modulus – Neutral cure’ product, ensuring that it does not in any way come into contact with the perimeter seal.
Please note that our hot melt sealant is not intended for structural glazing applications. It is a thermoplastic and should not be subjected to the weight of an unsupported pane. Frame design must provide proper support for the unit and prevent the glass from slipping. Stepped units are becoming an obsolete design.

Maintenance

When Celsius is manufactured an ‘Easy Clean’ coating is applied.
This coating becomes an integral part of the surface through strong bonding, which gives exceptional resistance to weathering, atmospheric pollution and staining.
Celsius performance glass does require cleaning but less frequently than standard glass.
NB. Do not use any product that is abrasive, as this will scratch the surface of the glass, resulting in the removal of the coating.
For further details - please see below for the installation period for your Celsius Glass.

Installations After 2012

Cleaning can be reduced by as much as 70%. It is recommended that the glass be cleaned using a suitable household glass cleaning product or a PH Neutral (PH 7) detergent.

Installations Before 2012

Maintenance can be reduced by as much as 50% over standard glass. It is recommended that the glass be cleaned using a mild solution of soapy water.

The figures shown above are for guide purposes only. Slight variations may occur due to glass specification, time of year, manufacturing tolerance, point of manufacture and type of instrumentation used.

Visible Light Transmittance: This is the percentage of visible light directly transmitted through the glass.

Solar Factor: This is the percentage of total solar energy (or heat from the sun) able to pass through the glass.
U-Value: This is used to measure internal heat loss during cooler periods. The lower the number, the greater the insulation.
UV Transmission: Sun damaging UV rays are dramatically reduced, allowing greater protection of your furniture and fabrics.

I have a North facing house - which in the range of performance glass would you suggest ?

Generally a North facing house and therefore conservatory, would benefit from extra light and a preferred option could be Celsius Clear - thus allowing maximum light infiltration, but still allowing the huge benefits that Celsius performance gives, such as it’s heat retention properties.
Conversely, a South facing house/conservatory which would receive maximum sun and light, would definitely benefit from Celsius One or Celsius Elite - giving you that extra solar and anti-glare protection.
As always, consumer preference is the deciding factor but with the three Celsius options you can have the complete performance glazing solution.

What does the Easy Clean coating mean to me ?

The Easy Clean coating on Celsius Glass reduces maintenance and helps to prevent unsightly marks from appearing on the conservatory roof. It is also guaranteed for 10 years.

How Does Performace Glass Work ?

Celsius Performance Glass utilises a Low-E and Solar control
combination coating and Argon filled cavity to control the
amount of visible light,UV and heat that pass through the glazed unit.
Easy Clean technology is added to reduce maintenance requirements.
